Who it applies to

Who needs a GARAN label?

Under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, the GARAN label concerns sellers and producers who advertise a commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years that covers the whole product and is offered at no extra cost. If you promote such a guarantee, the obligation is triggered by the advertising itself. This page is guidance, not legal advice.

The conditions that trigger the label

The label is tied to advertising a specific kind of guarantee. In broad terms, all of the following apply together:

  • The guarantee lasts more than two years.
  • It covers the whole product, not just a single component.
  • It is offered at no extra cost to the buyer.
  • It is advertised or communicated to consumers.

A few examples

A five-year guarantee on an appliance, advertised on the product page, points to the label. A paid extended-warranty add-on is a different case, because it is not offered at no extra cost. A guarantee limited to one component generally does not trigger the label, because it does not cover the whole product.

When in doubt

Borderline cases turn on the details of your offer and wording. Assess your specific case against the official text and, where appropriate, seek legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need it for a paid extended warranty?

The label concerns a guarantee offered at no extra cost. Paid add-on warranties are a different case; check the official text for your situation.

What if only one part has a longer guarantee?

The guarantee must cover the whole product. A guarantee limited to a single component generally does not trigger the label.
